Today, Court Services Victoria CEO Louise Anderson welcomed Judge Lisa Hannan, Chief Magistrate of Magistrates' Court of Victoria, members of the Dja Dja Wurrung community, and local MPs Jacinta Allan and Maree Edwards, in marking the release of new building designs for Bendigo's future court.

The event commenced with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony to ready the site for main construction works to commence in July 2021. This was followed by the launch of the striking new designs, developed through a significant partnership between Bendigo's Traditional Owners, the Dja Dja Wurrung and Court Services Victoria.

Prominent design features include a representation of creation being Bunjil, soaring four levels high and built into the building's copper facade.

And a welcoming courtyard will be paved to symbolise a smoking ceremony and landscaped to suggest the distinctive granite outcrops, water features and native flora of Dja Dja Wurrung Country.

View the designs in this animation or visit the Bendigo Law Court Development website page for more information.
