Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act 1982 (the FOI Act) gives you the right to request access to documents held by Court Services Victoria.

How to make a request

FOI requests must be in writing. You can either lodge your request electronically via the FOI website or complete the FOI request form, print and mail with a cheque for $27.90 to:

Please note, the FOI Act does not apply to:

  • documents held/created by CSV which relate to the judicial or quasi-judicial functions of the courts or VCAT (sections 6 and 29B of the FOI Act), or
  • documents that are available to the public for a fee (sections 14(1)(a) and 14(1)(b) of the FOI Act). Each court and VCAT has its own arrangements to enable the public to request access to those documents.

Court Services Victoria creates a large number of documents and records in the course of its work. Court Services Victoria uses an electronic document and records management system to classify, store, access and manage a broad range of electronic and hard copy documents.

Under the FOI Act, members of the public have the right to request information and access documents about their personal affairs, and the activities of Court Services Victoria.

A freedom of information request needs to be made in writing to the agency that holds the documents being requested. Requests for documents in the possession of Court Services Victoria should be addressed to:
